Strike While the Iron's Hot!

It's been a long day today!  I decided to get on and attack my quilt while I was feeling brave!  You would not believe how long and how much effort it has taken to measure everything umpteen times, cut it, pin it , stitch it back together, trim it and pin together the quilt sandwich!  I am totally drained and unfit for anything but I have a great sense of achievement and a quilt ready for quilting. (And a glass of red wine to fortify me!)

I now have to give a lot of thought to how I should quilt it and particularly to the colour of the thread(s) I will use.  I think it's going to live on the back of the door for a few days while I recover and think about the next step.

In between working on this quilt I've managed to finish my Journal Quilt for May. Not unsurprisingly it bears a strong similarity to my main project.

I was using this JQ to try out some quilt patterns before I decided to cut up the big quilt so, while I've practised free-machine quilting it hasn't helped me decide on how I'm going to quilt my main piece. Ho hum!

I'm not much of a football supporter but I feel I have to say "Go England!".  (Sorry if you're a USA supporter.)  If you are a football supporter, enjoy the match!

It's looking wonderful Julie. The piecing is different to what I was expecting. I love it! Love both of them! I'm sure inspiration will come for the quilting stitches. I'm whispering ... I still haven't started mine yet! Have got the fabrics ready, bought some new machine threads, have made lots of notes, but that's it so far ... I'm not worried (yet!)

It's getting betterer and betterer Julie!

I really like the effect of the close together lines of stright-stitch quilting - maybe some kind of variationof that. Or - idea has just come - make a fewprintouts and play with coloured pens/pencils?

Beautiful colours and beautiful quilts Julie - I am sure the glass of red will give you some extra inspiration. Don't know if I am glad or sorry about the draw for England last night. We just want Australia to do well against Germany tonight. Cheers, Robin

You big Brave girl! Well done, now your quilt is going to be very special indeed.
It is going to take a lot of courage to start quilting it, but you can do it, just take a deep breath....:)

Wow! Beautiful work! Love the colors. We live in the US, but we're cheering for England. My husband went to boarding school in England, and that's where his family is from. Take care. :-)

Julie, this is looking really stunning. Well done!! For quilting try and take some photos and then draw ideas onto the photo. I sometimes have one A4 sized photo to work on and lay peices of acetate plastic over the top and draw with a CD pen. You can also use the thin plastic A4 pockets which are cheaper. Send me an e-mail if you want more help. Angela
