I am part of a group that is reacting to a title provided by Helen over at Hebart. You can see other people's ideas over at 'Today's Title..' My Mum took this photograph on one of her days out and I really liked the shapes and colours of the old bottles. Some time ago I did a painting exercise with a selection of bottles in mixed media and I keep intending to translate the drawing into a textile piece.

Several drawings were made using the reflex/contour drawing technique and then the drawing above was made using different media, ink, oil pastel, chalk pastel and watercolour.

This image was made by preparing sheets of different textures using mixed media. The bottle shapes were then cut out and collaged in place and the background added with faux bottle shapes and added marks to pull it together (I think. Memory is a poor thing).

I think it would make a brilliant Little Gem.
I agree - or even a journal quilt. I find bottles and jars fascinating too - another thing we have in common!
I like your bottle painting. It would be interesting to see how you convert it to a quilt.
I love that tray of bottles in your Mum's photo and your drawings are great. There is something about bottles - I remember them being the subject for an exercise on a course I did some years back and actually liked my effort. I was tempted by Helen's idea/challenge but am so busy just now, it's just as well I didn't take part.
Ooooo!!!!!! lovely sketches, especially the bottom one, but what is reflex/contour drawing technique?
And yes of course you were right :-) thanks, it was a wonderful day
Its already a gem, but you could convert it into a stitched one.
Great stuff!
great idea Super pictures...
You amaze me Julie...
Also Regrets for not checking blogs out DUE to very IMPORTANT STUFF happening in our lives…
I have not come to many blogs here of recent. Because I/we are soon to be FIRST TIME Grandparents...I am so excited as we approach this weekend and a Baby Shower for our eldest daughter as she and her husband will be having a daughter mid June....
I am still even trying to get through the last of my trip to Egypt and then onto the Holy Land...
Kids first
I particularly like the top drawing/painting, those bottles look like they're trying to wriggle their way out the window into the sea - or maybe that's just me! Lovely colour combination, would work well in textile, I think with sheer fabrics to reflect the glass and shininess of the bottles.
I think that would make a beautiful Little Gem. I used to collect old bottles - we even used to go bottle digging by the side of the canal in Birmingham!
My favourite was a bottle of 'Handyside's Blood Purifier'!

I absolutely adore your drawings of the old bottles. I love old bottles and have a small collection of aqua green ones. I love your idea of translating your drawing into a stitched piece - wow - it will be so exciting. Gorgeous colours in your drawings too!! I shall watch with much interest what you do next with this series of lovely work ... Carolyn x
