Winter Wonderland

Well, it is if you don't have to move around in it!

As usual, when confronted with the white stuff, life in the UK has gone mad and everyone is very excited. To be fair, this is the heaviest snowfall we have had in about 18 years so noone under the age of 20 will have seen such weather conditions, unlike us boomers who remember the winters of the 60's.

My poor DH had to walk to work this morning. It took him 50 minutes and he said the town was in chaos with peole trying to cope with the slippery roads. He is now soaking in the bath as he aches all over. Not only did he walk to work but then he was on his feet all day in his job as a hospital porter. Fortunately he got a lift home but he may be getting a taxi home tomorrow.

The photographs above were taken this afternoon in our back garden. We've had about 6" of snow and it's still snowing. I do love to see the snow lying but it is a nightmare if you have to go out in it. I feel sorry for anyone who has to travel anywhere in the UK at the moment. Keep safe if that's you.

The birds are having a raw deal too. I've put food out for them today and made sure they've got some water but that will freeze overnight. I don't know whether our frogs will survive, the pond isn't very deep and it's frozen again. Maybe they'll be hiding under rocks or in the bottom of the pond.

I am now officially hibernating until the snow goes or our road clears of slush and snow!

I'm hibernating too, can't remember the last time we had more than an inch of snow here, for some reason Nottingham always has less snow than the rest of the country.

Hi Julie, isn't it strange... I too remember winters where snow was regularly over a foot deep, in fact the roads in the dales have/had snow posts permanently so that if the road was covered you could find where it was and they were at least 2 1/2" ft high. What has happened to the climate that teenagers will not have seen proper snow like this before!!!!

Hi Julie
I am going to have another day playing with paints and thread plus a walk in the snow which I didnt do yesterday as I thought I would only have the 1 day off. Lets hope we get more snow!!!!!

Love the snow pictures, glad you didn't have to go out in it. It looks so beautiful but as you say we are just nit geared up for it. We are in a cul de sac on a hill and most people couldn't get their cars back up. I have just spent the last 2 hours clearing the drive which is also on a slope ready for work at 6 am Thursday and praying for no more snow before then - a day off is not an option and it is a 5 mile walk!

It's so funny that even when we know the snow is coming it always comes as a shock and the whole country just comes to a standstill! One cm is enough to bring Cornwall to it's knees!

I'm glad I don't have to go out for a few days, it's so much nicer just looking at it through the window!

DOn't worry. The wee froggies are pretty resilient. We had one out and about in the garden just the other week, the morning after a frost!!! I was really surprised! I thought he should be hibernating for sure. I was a bit worried but I saw him a few days later again and so he must be fine. I think he snuggles in next to the composter bin. Every now and then he appears in a bird bath that sits on the ground next to it

It sleeted and rained late last night, so most of the snow is gone here. Amazing, as we ended up with about 4 or inches! Today we have had blue skies and sun- unbelievably, as the last couple of days have been skies full of grey and falling snow!!!

K's teaching (supply) was cancelled yesterday as the school he was at stayed closed. Then the agency rang and said that the one at the end of our road needed someone- which was brilliant as it meant just a 3 minute walk and no worry about driving!

How's the heating????

It's all very beautiful but the novelty wears off quickly. I was back at work today.

I was so excited that my two finally got to see 'proper' snow but less excited by two days with school shut!

Not sure of the next lot is going to hit us but at least it'll be at the weekend and Moogsdad won't have to cycle 7 miles in it!!

I hope your DH has recovered :-)
