Time Ashore

In case you're still wondering, we went to Norway on our first ever cruise. It was fantabulous! A beautiful country with great hospitality and an excellent cruise company (SAGA, no jokes please!) to look after us.
~
Despite a gloomy weather forecast and a wet welcome to our first stop, Bergen, we were lucky with the weather and saw our fair share of sunshine. ~

In Bergen we were met by a blogging friend of my DH who spent the whole day with us showing us the beautiful old Hanseatic town and took us up the funicular to gain an aerial view of the town and surroundings.

I have these lovely buildings in mind for a future journal quilt. These buildings are not the originals as these were burnt down in the past and the present buildings have been restored in the original style. Today all of these buildings have to have an external sprinkler system installed by law.

Bergen is a charming city with surprises around every corner. This porcelain sculpture has a waterfilled rill lined with ceramic tiles running away from it and puffs of steam coming out of the apertures near the top.

Even the manhole covers were attractive.

My DH took this inspiring photo of the clusters of roof shapes running through the Bryggen, the old part of Bergen. I'll post some more soon.

Hi Julie

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. What a source of inspiration for you. Just think of all those journal quilts you can now do on this subject.

Hi Julie

Wonderful photos. I am also glad to hear that you enjoyed the "cruise" element of your holiday. So pretty! I like the manhole cover and trust you to notice!
