Blink and you'd miss it

Earlier this evening, while we were watching "Britain's Got Talent", my DH happened to notice the light outside and the sun shining on my shed (this was at 20.44 BST). I could see that the clouds looked interesting so I went out with my camera and was greeted by this dramatic sky:

The shower didn't last long but the rainbow looked beautiful against this dark orange-tinged sky. The cloud shapes remind me a little of the marks you get with snow dyeing or low immersion dyeing.

What a wonderful dramatic sky - almost scary. I seem to have missed about four of your recent posts, so am catching up. Your bundles all look interesting to me and I cant wait to see what you do with them. It's lovely knowing that birds have built nests in the garden - we have had several this year and Mrs. Robin is still in residence, the bluetits and greattits having flown. Your coat proofing reminds me of when I had to treat a very large old wardrobe for woodworm. I had to get inside it to treat all surfaces and had to lie down for a time afterwards!!

Wow! Already working on the colour-mixes - possibly rust with weak cerulean or cobalt blue?

BTW have been thinking about snow dyeing - baffling, because Procion dyes are designed to work within a certain temperature range (which doesn't go anywhere near freezing and which is why they last longer in solution if kept in the fridge where the low temperature delayes them bonding to the water. I'm convinced the actual dyeing takes place as the fabric warms again after being taken out of the snow, and the patterns are a result of some areas warming up as others stay cool - so maybe you could get a similar effect by putting (well wrapped up to safeguard the food) in the freezer and then letting them thaw out slowly?

Very interesting clouds and rainbow, how weird is our weather?

Yesterday, very hot in St. Ives, I got some gorgeous photos I hope to share soon. Today, very chilly, heavy rain and dark in the cottage ...

Sometimes it pays to "show up!" I missed the rainbow we had last week, only lasted about 3 minutes! I'm stumped as well about the snow dyeing; when it was coolish in the garage the dyeing and screen printing didn't work nearly as well as it is now that it's almost too hot for me to be in the garage. Maybe the snow acts like a resist until the dye settles into a pattern and then bonds when it warms up? Though, the dye I used when it was cool didn't bond very well on the fabric in any area. What a mystery!

There is only one time when I like the look of the mostly awful bright yellow fields which surround us, and that is when the sky is wet and grey and just like in your photo. The colours of the (rape seed) fields is magical. If we painted it just as it is, no-one would believe we got it right. The rainbow is a real bonus too :)
