Spring evening and child art

Not that I've been in there lately, I've been too busy sewing, this was my studio this evening, bathed in the westering sun.

This lovely white lilac was also catching the sun tonight and smells gorgeous. I always used to cut some and take into my neighbour Gwen but sadly, not to be any longer. It's very strange not having Gwen next door anymore. She loved her garden and got very tetchy if any of the plants started to look a bit ragged. I'm planning to trim the shrubs in the border between us as I can "hear" her saying it's time they were tidied up!

I've had a busy day finishing the piece I am sending to Susan for her garden swap so I can't show you what I've been doing. I will however show you this piece:

I have been meaning to put this up for a while but kept forgetting. I painted this when I was 11 years old and it was painted with school paints on sugar paper, I think. It was based on a poem about a cockerel asking a hen to go for a walk. She declined as she was a good mother sitting on her eggs! I remember that we were exploring texture and I really enjoyed doing the painting. I wonder if this painting laid the foundation for my passions today? The teacher liked it anyway, it was selected for an exhibition of schoolchildren's art at the Beecroft Art Gallery which still exists. I regret now that I never went to see it on display. I should like to get it reframed but I wonder if it will disintegrate if taken out of its frame?

What a lovely painting, Julie, looking at this I should definitely think your talent was always there, the expression on the cockerel's face is wonderful and the whole painting is so lively. I'm sure if you had it framed professionally it would be safe, and well worth it.

I'm not sure which I love most, the seclusion of your work place or the painting, I would reframe, it is so precious.

The painting is fantastic Julie - what talent! Love the look of your studio too - don't think I would ever come out if I had a space like that! Have been thinking of you today as we were wandering around Barnsdale. It was a bit cold and gloomy but we had a lovely day.

Absolutely reframe this picture. There are archival framing materials and methods available now that haven't been in the past, so take it to a pro. It's too precious to do otherwise!

I looooove your studio! I could play in there for hours!

Your painting is wonderful and how lovely that you still have it. I can see that your talent started early!

WOW that is one Charming Studio

But why should I be surprised...great work Julie

I have been away from the PC for several days because our new puppies developed PARVO.
I did not want to post sad news, NOW there is POSITIVE NEWS on our Pups.

Now you know why I have not been to your blogs…
We will take a few more days to recoup and then be back with hopefully fabulous pictures of the puppies looking soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better.

have a extraordinary weekend with family and friends

Sorry it has been so long since I visited Julie. Thought it was time I popped back in to say hello!

Funny to think of your weather getting warmer when it is very cool here. What a lovely studio you have.

And I can see you had talent at a very young age. Thankyou for sharing with us :)

Definitely get it reframed and by a professional. It is super and a great memory.

I have a couple of pictures my kids made framed and hanging on the wall - they are almost 30 years old now and doing fine. My daughter is painting murals on her children's walls now so encouragement in art and hanging on to memories of it both work. When your well runs dry you can look at this and know you can, you can!

What a lovely picture, and amazing what you can create with the most basic of materials. It's so fresh and lively, I would definitely get it framed if I were youl
